Kiltullagh Pioneers U11A agonising defeat in Robert Power Cup Quarter Final
Kiltullagh Pioneers U11A squad suffered an agonising 3-2 defeat away to a very strong Salthill Devon A in the Robert Power Cup quarter final on Saturday, April 2, 2015 in Drom. Playing into a strong breeze, Kiltullagh were under pressure for most of the first half and were 2-0 down by the break, the second goal being a particularly good one by Salthill.
Our players kept their heads and shape and had Salthill under a lot more pressure in the second half. We were very unlucky when a fabulous shot by Leon Conaire came back off the crossbar but then Salthill snatched a third against the run of play after a great counter attack.
To our players credit, they kept battling and when the lion hearted Oisin Coyne won a brilliant tackle in midfield, he burst forward and crossed in to where there were three Kiltullagh players and Oisin Maher applied the finish. Our tails were up and an absolute pile driver from Paddy Regan had it back to 3-2. Salthill were well rattled at this stage but try as we might, we just could not grab the equaliser.
This is a tremendous squad of players, part of a great number of U10 and U11 players who have down the whole club very proud this season and we have bowed out of this competition with our heads held high.
Well done to the coaches Damien Coyne and Paul Earls who have done great work all year.
