Paintings stolen from Kiltullagh Church

Six of the 14 stations of the cross have been stolen from Kiltullagh Church over the weekend.

Fr Martin McNamara noticed the Evie Hone oil paintings were missing when he went to lock up the church shortly after 9pm on Saturday night, June 22nd.

Three paintings were taken from each of the side aisles of the church. Gardai carried out a forensic examination at the church today, Sunday June 23rd.

The paintings have being hanging in the Church since 1945 and are said to be of some value. Preliminary sketches artist Evie Hone did for the Stations of the Cross in Kiltullagh Church are said to have fetched over €40,000 at auction last year.

Anyone with any information should contact the Gardai at Mill Street at 091 538000.
